That's the real screen. Watch it arm itself, or tap ARM GATES to run it again. Demo run: times are simulated.

How it works

Three moves. Then you just run.

The camera watches a line across the lane like a tripwire. Frames are analyzed on the phone and never leave it.

01 · STAND IT

Phone on a stand at the line

Point the camera across the lane. A cone marks the far end of the run.

02 · ARM IT

Tap ARM and hold still

The phone reads the scene and sets its own sensitivity. For reaction drills it then waits a random 1.5–4 s and flashes GO.

03 · RUN

The crossing stamps the time

Cross the line and the clock starts. Cross it again and it stops. Every rep is saved to that athlete.

One phone does both

Reaction light and stopwatch.

The phone on the stand is also the reaction light. The instant you cross the line it calls a direction, a color or a number — so you can't pre-plan the run. Then it times your return.

Left or right — a cone each side, go to the one it calls.

  • Roster mode: tap the next athlete, go
  • Two phones for start–finish splits
  • CSV export for the spreadsheet

Parents

The driveway becomes a combine.

  • Nothing to buy — it's the phone you have
  • Set up in under a minute
  • Kid-safe: no athlete accounts, no video leaves the phone
Install

Put it on your home screen.

It's a web app — nothing to download from a store. Once it's loaded it opens at the field; pairing two phones needs the coach's hotspot or WiFi. For steady timing, put the phone on a stand: any inexpensive iPhone or Android stand or tripod works. A phone held in a hand moves, and a moving camera trips the gate.

Questions

Straight answers.

Do I need two phones?

No. One phone on a stand is a timing line and a reaction light: it flashes a cue when you cross, then times you back. Add a second phone only for a separate finish line, like a straight 40.

How accurate is it?

It's a training tool. Times come from the phone camera and clock sync between phones, so compare your own times over time rather than against a laser system or an official meet. Phone model, light and camera placement all matter; the app shows you a sync margin so you know what you're looking at.

What does it cost?

Nothing right now: the app is free during early access. A paid plan is planned at $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month, after a 7-day free trial. You’ll choose whether to subscribe, and nothing is charged unless you do.

iPhone or Android?

Both. Open the timer in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, then add it to your home screen. Nothing to download from a store.

Where does my data go?

Video never leaves the phone; frames are analyzed on-device and never recorded. Athlete names and times stay in your phone's browser. Your coach profile (name, email, mobile, sport, athlete age range) comes to us so we can support you. See the Privacy Policy.

Do I need a tripod or stand?

Yes, for best results. The camera is the timing gate, so it has to hold still; a $10 iPhone or Android phone stand, a mini tripod or a cone clip all work. Set it at hip height, aim it across the line, and leave it alone once it's armed.

Is there WiFi at the field?

Usually not, and you don't need it for one phone. To pair two phones, turn on the coach's hotspot for a few seconds; after pairing, timing runs phone-to-phone.

Who we are

Thirty years on the field.

Velocity Sprint comes from a Miami crew that has spent three decades building athletes — youth combines, high-school programs, club soccer and track — and thirty years of hauling timing gates that cost more than the team van and spent most of the season in a closet.

So we built the timer we wanted on the sideline: the phone already in every coach's pocket, honest numbers a kid can watch improve week over week, and nothing to charge, calibrate or carry. Every drill in the library is one we actually run. If it doesn't survive a Saturday morning with forty kids and one stand, it doesn't ship.
